"The dictionary is the result of extensive and lengthy work. Its depth is particularly remarkable as it was a part of the efforts made by the Somali Studies project, commencing its operation after its release in 1985. Somali-Italian Dictionary (Agostini F., A. Puglielli, and Ciise M. Siyaad, Dizionario Somalo-Italiano, Rome, 1985), the reason for its prolonged completion was due to the commencement of the civil war in 1991, which greatly impeded the completion of the valuable project undertaken by the Academy of Arts, Literature, and Science in Mogadishu. Fortunately, Italian assistance had managed to preserve the manuscript until now. Although some sections were not preserved in Somalia, most information was saved. The interruption in the collaboration project 'Somalia-Italy,' coupled with the collapse of the Somali National University and Academy, as well as other national institutions, and given the tumultuous conditions of conflict in the country have resulted in a substantial delay in finalizing the dictionary project. This aspect has been acknowledged multiple times before (Puglielli 1995, Puglielli e Bitocchi 2009).

It has been an arduous task trying to highlight specific sections such as artistic terminologies, botanical knowledge, or others that remain untouched in digitizing this dictionary which we present today."
